F1 Augmented Reality Project Manager (Geneva - Switzerland)

Join the FIA and lead a pioneering safety technology program.

As the F1 Augmented Reality Project Manager within the FIA Technical Department, you will lead a multi-year strategic program exploring how Augmented Reality and Head-Up Display technologies could improve driver safety and situational awareness, particularly in low visibility conditions.

You will act as the program's technical leader and systems integrator, coordinating specialized suppliers, research partners, Formula 1 teams, and internal FIA stakeholders. This role does not correspond to traditional project management. It requires technical knowledge to challenge engineering proposals, manage integration risks, and drive complex technical decisions.

This new full-time permanent position is preferably based in Geneva. London may also be considered.

MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical direction of the program

• Define and own the multi-year technical roadmap, development phases, milestones, and deliverables.
• Structure the program around key technologies, including helmet and visor displays, optical HUD solutions, sensors, vehicle positioning, data processing, and sensor fusion.
• Lead the program from technological assessment and proof of concept through to prototype development, integration, and testing.
• Maintain effective governance via management of risks, dependencies, resources, and milestones.

Systems integration and technical coordination

• Act as the technical integrator of embedded electronic systems, sensors, communication systems, data processing solutions, and driver equipment.
• Translate safety and operational objectives into technical requirements, system architectures, and validation plans.
• Identify technical dependencies, interface constraints, and integration risks between hardware and software systems.
• Ensure that solutions meet Formula 1 constraints, particularly in terms of packaging, weight, aerodynamics, cooling, latency, reliability, and driver safety.

Supplier and stakeholder management

• Identify and coordinate specialized technology suppliers, engineering partners, and research organizations.
• Review and challenge supplier proposals, technical architectures, test results, costs, and delivery timelines.
• Create alignment between Formula 1 teams, FIA technical departments, safety specialists, and external partners.
• Lead technical workshops, reconcile competing requirements, and facilitate pragmatic compromises.

Testing, human factors, and risk management

• Coordinate simulation, laboratory evaluation, prototype development, and vehicle testing.
• Develop validation protocols for individual technologies and integrated solutions.
• Evaluate human factors, including cognitive load, visual ergonomics, information prioritization, latency, and driver emergency evacuation.
• Identify and mitigate technical, safety, financial, intellectual property, and program delivery risks.

Regulation and strategic roadmap

• Evaluate potential implications for FIA technical, sporting, and financial regulations.
• Support the development of regulatory, standardization, and implementation roadmaps.
• Prepare technical trade-off analyses, recommendations, and phased implementation scenarios.
• Consolidate technical findings and test results into clear reports for management and governance bodies.

PROFILE:

• Master's in systems engineering, electronics, electrical engineering, control engineering, embedded systems, avionics, optronics, or a related discipline.
• 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in engineering and project management involving complex electronic, control, or safety-critical systems.
• Strong technical knowledge in areas such as embedded electronics, control systems, sensors, communication systems, sensor fusion, positioning technologies, embedded systems, or optical displays.
• Experience in Formula 1, WEC, or advanced motorsport would be highly appreciated. Relevant experience in aerospace, avionics, or advanced automotive engineering is also welcome.
• Proven experience in coordinating complex engineering programs involving multiple suppliers and interconnected technical workflows.
• Experience in integrating hardware and software components in demanding, high-performance, or safety-critical environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management and influence skills, with the ability to reconcile competing technical priorities.
• Experience with HUD technologies, helmet systems, sensor fusion, vehicle positioning, or driver assistance technologies would be an advantage.
• Full professional proficiency in English.
